About

Hello there! My name is Ruby. I am a wandering 20 year old exploring the world through food, art and people.

I went vegan mostly for personal health reasons and it has been a really great change in my life. However, one of my best friends makes fun of me (out of love) whenever I order soy milk in my coffee, bake with flax seeds, eat daiya cheese, etc. She always says "God, that's SO vegan!" Hence, the name of this blog.

Here you will find my baking successes, a couple failures, and some general ramblings on life. I love making new friends, so feel free to shoot me an email if you have any questions or just want to chat!  rubyjsmith@earthlink.net

Hi, I found your site through Food gawker. And I am happy I did. I am a vegetarian ( including dairy products but no eggs , meat etc) by practice and faith. I hope to learn the vegan version of Continental cuisine( I am an Indian) through your blog. And you are doing wonderful job managing your college and having such a wonderful blog. Looking forward to more of your posts. All the best!!!

  3. I've wanted to start a blog like yours for over a year now - I'm a senior in college struggling with a godawful and vegan-oblivious dining hall and have had this romanticized idea of cooking in my dorm at least a few times a week, keeping a blog about it, continuing eating healthy and responsibly despite being overloaded with work...and it has never happened, hahah. I just came across your blog via findingvegan.com and now that I'm home for winter break I'll be diving into some of your recipes (which all look great, by the way!)! Hope you're doing well! --Hannah

  4. Hey Hannah, thanks for stopping by! It's definitely a lot to juggle when you're in college... I started my blog up over the summer so it had some time to develop before I went back to school. It's too bad you have an oblivious dining hall, but I hope you enjoy making my recipes over break! Let me know how they turn out for you :) Happy holidays!

Heya Ruby, I just found your blog and I'm absolutely loving it!
I actually found your blog while looking for a recipe for my best friend who recently went vegan and I love how easy your recipes are! I get so frustrated trying to find specialized ingredients like egg replacers and stuff, so your site has been great. I just whipped up a batch of pear muffins from your old site and just wanted to drop by and say thanks and how great they were! Happy holidays!

  6. Hi there!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the pear muffins- I do try to show that vegan baking is not as hard as everyone thinks it is, so I'm happy you discovered that here. Happy holidays to you too!

  7. SO glad i found your blog. I am also in college and i am also a dancer! I am not vegan, however, i am a pescetarian (eat fish, veggies, and fruit). Although, being in a college dorm room, I RARELY EAT FISH now. So basically at school, I am a vegan (also lactose intolerant). Anyways, I love everything about your blog and I am so glad I found it through tumblr. I am bookmarking all of your recipes to try once i go home over breaks to my kitchen!!!
    :)

Thank you so much! I love meeting fellow foodies my age- vegan or not! That's awesome that you just graduated from culinary school. Congrats! It's my dream to do that one day after I finish my undergrad degree. I still have a lot to learn about cooking!

  10. Found your blog through Food Gawker, and had to say hi! I was reading over your upcoming trip to Europe – so jealous! I have a huge passion for European travel, and look forward to reading of your adventures over there! I’m also Minneapolis based, so it was fun to find another MN food blogger. Look forward to reading That’s So Vegan!
